It is mostly said that translating poetry is controversial and having a thorny area.
This study tries to do nothing with this statement, it tries to shed light on the two divergent
models of assessing and criticizing the outcome of a particular translation: The linguistic and
semiotic models of translation.
The same translated poem for Bader Shaker Al-Sayyeb's The Song of the Rain has been
analysed from two different perspectives/ models.
The results of each model indicate to different quality assessment statements. That's to
hypothesize “Choosing a particular model can change the final judgment towards the outcome
product”.
The translation has been done by “Khouloud Al-Muttaliby”. The target version of this poem has
been published in Knot Magazine in FALL ISSUE 2012 . This study tries to analyse the same
translation for Al-Sayyab’s Poem by applying the two following divergent models: 1- The
Linguistics-Based Model and 2- The Semiotics-Based Model
